Banketbakkerij Van der Linde
Banketbakkerij Van der Linde is a true Amsterdam icon on the Nieuwendijk. Since 1937, Amsterdammers and visitors from far and wide have flocked to the small pastry bakery for one specialty: the famous whipped-cream ice cream (slagroomijs). This is no ordinary cream ice, but a unique combination of vanilla ice in which fresh whipped cream is incorporated, making it exceptionally creamy and airy. The recipe has remained virtually unchanged for generations and the ice cream is prepared fresh every morning in the workshop above the shop. Besides the iconic ice cream, Van der Linde also sells cream truffles, mergpijpjes and some classic pastry products. With the nostalgic interior and the often long queue in front of the door, a visit to Van der Linde is a real Amsterdam tradition.
Where does the name come from?
The pastry bakery is named after the Van der Linde family, who founded the business in 1937. By now the third generation is at the helm, but the family name has always been retained and has grown into a household name in Amsterdam.
Fun fact
The famous whipped-cream ice cream is still churned fresh daily and contains whipped cream that is mixed directly through the ice, instead of as a dollop on top. It is precisely that special preparation method that makes the ice cream so creamy and has distinguished Van der Linde from every other ice cream parlour in Amsterdam for almost ninety years.
