Houten chalets tijdens Winter Plaza

During the Winter Plaza on the Rembrandtplein, the atmospheric wooden chalets provide the ultimate winter feeling. Around the ice rink stand cosy wooden houses from which the smell of fresh oliebollen, warm waffles, bratwurst and mulled wine reaches you. Visitors can warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or a wintry drink, while looking out over the skating rink and the festively lit trees. The chalets form the convivial heart of the Winter Plaza and make a visit to the Rembrandtplein in winter complete. During the day it is a nice place to rest for a while, while in the evening the square transforms into an atmospheric setting full of lights and wintry conviviality.
Where does the idea come from?
The wooden chalets are inspired by the traditional mountain huts and Christmas markets of the Alpine countries, such as Austria, Germany and Switzerland. There, similar wooden houses have been used for centuries during winter markets to sell food, drink and artisanal products. That atmospheric concept has been adopted for the Winter Plaza in Amsterdam.
Fun fact
Did you know that the wooden chalets on the Rembrandtplein are often open longer than the ice rink? After the skates have been taken off, you can still linger for a mulled wine, hot chocolate or a wintry snack. At the weekend the chalets even stay open until the late hours, making the Winter Plaza a convivial winter destination even without skating.
