Oostermeer (landgoed, alleen van buiten te bekijken)

Country estate Oostermeer is one of the best-preserved historic country estates along the Amstel. The stately country house, built in the 18th century, lies hidden behind a graceful wrought-iron gate on the Amsteldijk Noord. Oostermeer is surrounded by a historic garden, a garden pavilion, outbuildings and monumental trees, so that it still has the appearance of a country residence from the Golden Age. In that time, wealthy Amsterdam merchants and regents had country houses built here to escape the bustle of the city. Today Oostermeer is private property and not open to the public. Fortunately, the country house can be beautifully admired from the Amsteldijk, which makes it a beloved stop during a walk or cycle ride along the Amstel.
Where does the name come from?
The name Oostermeer refers to the location east of the former Pancrasmeertje (also called Bankrasmeer). The name first appears at the beginning of the 18th century and has been connected to the country estate ever since.

Oostermeer is one of only three historic country estates along the Amstel that have withstood the test of time. Behind the monumental gate lies moreover an almost completely preserved ensemble of country house, historic garden, garden pavilion and outbuildings. Precisely because the estate is private property, it remains a hidden gem that you can only admire from the Amsteldijk.
