Where does the name come from?

Pulitzer Garden is named after the atmospheric inner garden of the Pulitzer Amsterdam, the luxury hotel of which it is part. That hotel owes its name to Peter Pulitzer, grandson of the famous newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer, after whom the Pulitzer Prize is also named. The addition ‘Garden’ simply refers to the green courtyard that forms the beating heart of the hotel complex.

Fun fact

The garden lies literally wedged between 25 interconnected 17th- and 18th-century canal houses. Around the inner garden runs a maze of historic houses, hidden passages and stairways, so that you are sitting in one of the quietest spots in the city while being right in the middle of the busy Nine Streets.
