Terras van Bakhuys
a good coffee or a long lunch. The lively street, the view of the historic buildings and the relaxed atmosphere make it an ideal place to recover for a moment. Bakhuys is known for its artisanal sourdough bread from a wood-fired stone oven, homemade patisserie and pizzas from the same oven. The terrace therefore feels like an extension of the bakery: the smell of freshly baked bread and coffee hangs in the air all day.
Where does the name come from?
The name Bakhuys is a nod to the historic spelling of the Dutch word bakhuis: a separate building where bread was baked in a wood oven in the past. That tradition lives on here, because the wood-fired oven still forms the heart of the bakery.
Fun fact
Bakhuys bakes all its sourdough breads after a long proofing process of at least 24 to 48 hours. That time provides the full flavour for which the bakery is known – and which you can even smell while sitting on the terrace
