Night Kitchen Amsterdam
Night Kitchen is an Eastern Mediterranean neo-bistro and late-night bar on Jan Pieter Heijestraat in Oud-West. Its cooking draws broadly on Levantine and Mediterranean flavours, with tahini, preserved lemon, roasted vegetables, fish and meat appearing in dishes intended for the whole table. The signature “Dinner with Friends” format lets the kitchen assemble a shared meal after discussing the group’s preferences and dietary requirements, reducing the need for everyone to negotiate a long menu. The blog particularly highlights the house-made gnudi with artichoke and lemon butter, together with roasted sweet potato and miso tahini. The intimate, lively atmosphere makes the restaurant especially well suited to sociable group dinners.
Where does the name come from?
The restaurant does not publish a detailed naming anecdote, but the meaning is unusually direct. Night Kitchen is designed around evening dining and food served later than at many Amsterdam restaurants. I amsterdam similarly explains the name as a reference to its longer-running kitchen, so the title functions as a concise description of the concept.
Fun fact
The Amsterdam restaurant is the third chapter of an international concept. The first Night Kitchen opened in Tel Aviv’s Neve Tzedek neighbourhood in 2012, followed by a Berlin location in a converted stable building in 2017. Night Kitchen Amsterdam opened in Oud-West in July 2021.
